Greetings!

Welcome to my site! I’m Ashley Bedeau, LCPC, a Licensed Clinical Counselor dedicated to serving the DMV community and licensed in Maryland.  As an African American-Trinidadian, I offer a unique perspective in my practice. With a background in trauma care, dual-diagnosis treatment, and first responder wellness, I employ a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to promote resilience and healing. My goal is to help you navigate life's challenges with empathy and confidence.

Finding Light Through the Journey

I’m Ashley A. Bedeau, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, but more importantly, a woman who has lived, learned, and grown through life’s twists and turns. I was born in Long Island, New York, and raised by my incredible mother, who immigrated from Trinidad. Her strength, love, and faith shaped the foundation of who I am today.

I grew up in many places that taught me about resilience and community, from Richmond, Virginia, where I attended Fox Elementary, to Washington, D.C., where I attended Davis Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and the Literary Media Department at Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Each city left its mark, shaping my perspective on people, purpose, and healing.

Life wasn’t always easy. My mother’s courage in leaving an abusive relationship taught me the importance of emotional safety and boundaries early on. Moving to D.C. brought new beginnings, structure, family, and faith. I was raised in the Yoruba tradition, baptized under the name Abao, meaning “bringer of joy and happiness.” That name continues to guide how I show up in the world, with joy, compassion, and intention.

Our blended family grew over the years, brothers, sisters, laughter, loss, and the lessons that only love and grief can teach. Death has shown me the value of presence and the sacredness of healing.

Today, I carry those lessons into my work as a therapist and community advocate, supporting individuals, families, and groups as they navigate their own stories of pain, growth, and transformation. My goal isn’t just to offer therapy, it’s to build community resources, facilitate healing spaces, and empower others to find peace and purpose.

This journey is still unfolding. Through my practice and collaborations, such as recent workshops with The Widow’s Pantry, I’m creating pathways for open conversations about mental health, resilience, and compassion.

So, what happened was… I embarked on this wild journey called life, armed with humor, heart, and a deep belief in the human spirit. From lovable mishaps to moments of stillness, I’ve learned that healing isn’t about perfection, it’s about connection.

Welcome to my story. I’m glad you’re here.
